Chat is a community. Not a subscription.

GOOD CHAT.
ZERO
BULLSHIT.

Your server. Your clients. Your data.
No Nitro, ever.

Discord put a checkout between you and the good stuff. We think that sucks. So we’re building fdis: an open-source home for your people, on your own terms.

IN DEVELOPMENT · CLIENTS & SERVER COMING SOON

SELF-HOSTED BY DESIGNOPEN SOURCE, NOT OPEN WALLETDONATIONS. NO FEATURE TIERS.

The entire deal

Own the place.
Keep the good stuff.

Open-source clients. A server you run. No paid feature gates. We’re building the home for your community, without paid gates for cross-server custom emoji, larger uploads or HD streaming.

Bring your people

Download fdis.
Leave the tollbooth.

Your app. Your machine.
No root install needed.

The command installers check the signed release, file size and SHA-256 before installing. Until the release key and trusted installer route are ready, they stop without installing anything. Unix needs Python 3; Windows uses its built-in .NET runtime. Installation details.

Your server / literally

Be the landlord.
Skip the rent-seeking.

Run it on your own machine or a VPS. You control the community; you also keep the backups. Server releases are being prepared.

Docker

One container. Persistent data. No premium switch.

First server release coming

# Verified Docker one-liner coming with the server release.

Linux VPS

A verified server binary, installed under your user.

(d=$(mktemp -d) && trap 'rm -rf "$d"' EXIT && curl -fsSL https://fdis.gg/install.sh -o "$d/install.sh" && sh "$d/install.sh" --server)

Creates a user service. Your host needs systemd; open UDP 7766 in your host’s firewall.

Hosted communities in AWS are planned separately. No hosted plan is on sale yet. Docker uses a signed image digest when a release exists.

A little fine print

Fair questions.
Straight answers.

Is fdis available yet?
The first release is in development. Download cards describe signed release targets. Use the command installer to download and check the file before installation. No release date, imaginary download, or pretend checkout.
Is the software free?
That’s the deal: open-source clients and server, no paid feature gates. You pay for the infrastructure you choose. Optional donations support the fdis foundation.
Do I need to run a server?
Only if you want to own one. Members will join their community using the fdis client. A managed AWS hosting option is planned, with its costs separate from the free software.
What about security and updates?
Installers verify the release signature and the downloaded file. In-app updates and encrypted chat are being built and reviewed. Self-hosting still means maintaining your host, permissions and backups.
Is this Discord?
Independent project. Original code and identity. Familiar frustrations. fdis is not affiliated with Discord.
